The population of El Salvador is 6,108,590 and grows everyday (The World Factbook). This is about 19.3% of the population of the United States. El Salvador is considerable smaller than the United States so the population difference is not that surprising.
b) Where do the people live in this country? Rural areas? Urban areas? What are some of the major cities and their populations?
In El Salvador about 40% of the population lives in rural areas (Nationalmaster.com). More of the population live in cities. The top four cities in El Salvador are: San Salvador - 540,989 people, Santa Ana - 245,421 people, Soyapango - 241,403 people, and San Miguel - 218,410 people (Census).
Agriculture
a) What types of agriculture do they have and what type of diet do they have?
The most important things grown in El Salvador are coffee, cotton, corn, and sugarcane. They also grow things like watermelon, melon, coconuts, and mangoes (Britannica.com). In El Salvador the typical breakfast includes refried beans, tortillas, cheese, and drink coffee. Lunch is the biggest meal, like other Spanish countries, and they usually eat tortillas, rice, beans, some vegetables, and pork or chicken. At night they will simply eat tortillas and beans (Whats4eats.com).
Industry and Tourism
a) Are industry and tourism related to geography and climate?
Tourism is directly related to the climate. Surfing and beaches are main attractions of people coming to El Salvador. The various volcanoes also bring people into El Salvador. Climate also plays a large role in agricultural jobs. Most of El Salvador's industry comes from trade of their crops.
Cultural Activities
a) Are there any notable historical events that add to the climate/culture story?
In 1998 a hurricane hit El Salvador leaving hundreds dead or without homes. A few years later in 2001, a drought hit and destroyed 80% of crops and caused famine (Factmonster.com). This shows that even though their climate is usually stable severe weather affects all places in the world.
