El Salvador is located in Central America on the western side. It is a small country between Guatemala, Honduras and is on the coast of the north Pacific Ocean.
El Salvador is very small and only has an area of 21,041 km^2. It is only .26% the size of the United States. According to The World Factbook, El Salvador is the smallest Central American country and is the only one not located on the Caribbean Sea (The World Factbook).
El Salvador is known as the Land of Volcanoes. Volcanoes and mountains make up most of El Salvador's land. El Salvador has some lakes, most notably Lake Olomega which is fresh water and is home to some endangered species (Ramsar Convention).
